Beaver County…
Beaver County is located in the panhandle of Oklahoma, which was also known as No Mans Land. If you travel on the highway, in No Mans Land the easterly county (Beaver) is one of three counties you pass through in the panhandle (a.k.a. No Mans Land). The town of Beaver is a small agricultural community with it’s share of oil & gas production and is also famous for it’s World’s Champion Cowchip Throwing Contest. It is also the county seat of Beaver County.
If you head along highway 270 in the southeastern part of Beaver County, you will come to our next stop… Slapout (Nye). (Click on the photo to view a larger view of the road sign on the westside of Slapout. photo was taken January 3, 2001.) If you have any other ghostowns to add to the panhandle of Oklahoma or Beaver County, please Email: paristimes@earthlink.net (Linda) and send us some pictures of past and present. Thanks!

- http://www.cruising-america.com/aline/index.html - Aline, Oklahoma - 2000 & Beyond - Aline is located in Alfalfa County. Aline is in the SW part of Alfalfa County in NW Oklahoma. Aline was established as a post office two miles south of the present town, April 27, 1894. It was named for the postmaster’s daughter (Aline Hartshorn). When the railroads came the town moved to the present site. Aline is situated in the valley of the Eagle Chief Creek, a tributary of the Cimarron River. READ about their History while you are at their website.

- Biographical Sketch About Life & Times - Elizabeth Hampton… She was living in the Green Valley community west of Carmen in the first quarter of this century. She was born in 1816 in Missouri, had two husbands who were both murdered, and a writer for the “Aline Chronoscope” (who was a good friend of the Sherrell family) did a series of interviews with her in 1921. She died in 1923. The story is quite interesting and I transcribed it with all the grammar and punctuation preserved from the original newspaper articles. The story is on my ancestry page. (there’s a five-generation photo on that page and SHE is the oldest person in the photo).
