i currently live in effie minnesota and a close friend of mine lives in craigville, infact she lives right on craigville rode, just shy of the bridge. many creepy things occur, but we have yet to study more. over 26 illegal saloons were located across craigville, and peggy (owner of an oddly popular saloon) was a beautiful woman but very very tough. many men would get way too intoxicated, and lots would try and mess with peggy. they were hit across the head and dumped in the river. also loggers have had accidents in this river and died. this same river infact, is one that me and groups of friends go tubing on (which is a two hour trip) none of us are willing to go alone. if you are curious of these two little towns or if you ever visit them, i would suggest checking out the effie school, and craigville bridge or the woods of craigville (at night is very wierd) cabins are available to rent directly across from craigville road.

We used to stay at the Craigville Hotel as youngster, back in the late 60s and early 70s, back then there were a couple of shacks, the hotel and a bar, Peggys, I think. Dad used to tell us there was no law up there and anyone could get a drink at the bar. The hotel also served liquor. It was run by a couple, I think last name, the Parsons. I got to know a couple of there children. One of the first memories I have is hearing a loud commotion going on after we had gone to bed upstairs and going down to see what was going on and some native american, laying next to the stove with blood trickling out his mouth. My dad saw me and said the guy had gotten into a fight, was pretty strange for a kid from the cities.

The rodeo goes on the last full weekend in july and has for 50 years its owned by Howard Pitzen who lives on the grounds just south of Craigville. Also on the menu in the "Effie Cafe" is the true story of Craigville's brothels and saloons.
