Ned Turnley, founder/owner of Runnymede Colony, KS

Ned Turnley was the founder of the colony and owner of the land where it was located. Turnley spent most of his time traveling back and forth to England where he tried to recruit additional settlers. Runnymede Colony - Hooper & Watmough

Hope Hooper and Dick Watmough were two of the major players in the Runnymede Colony. Hooper was the force behind building the Runnymede Hotel. Watmough owned several businesses and wrote a column for the Harper paper under the name The Bird of Truth. Watmough died tragically in a stable fire on the eve of his return to England to get married. — courtesy of Jim Richey & Kansas State Historical Society
