Northwestern State Teachers' College 1937 - Women's Athletic Association
(W.A.A.) The Women's Athletic Association of Northwestern has high purposes to give every girl in college an opportunity to form good habits of recreation that will answer for immediate use of leisure, and for the after college days as well; and to create a comaradely friendliness in games and sports. Thirty-eight girls organized on February 14, 1936, electing Margaret Brower as president. When the constitutuion was drawn up, sports managers for different events were elected. Every woman desiring membership in this association must earn 50 points. When she has made 250 points a WAA pin is awarded, and after 500 points a lettered sweater is presented. All intramural sports were sponsored by the WAA last spring, and all girls in the college were urged to participate. A short hike followed by a tin can supper was the April feature. Jessie Pounds was elected summer school president. All women's intra-county activities were supervised by the WAA. A track day and a swimming meet were new in the program.
