History of the Freshman Class…

Our tribe here assembled in ides of September.

Twas a miserable day – we can’t help but remember.

We were homesick and lonely and weary and blue,

A peevish and sickly and pea-green looking crew.

But we made up in numbrs for what ‘er was wrong

For the class of ’29 was near two hundred strong

The first day was a nightmare, we wandered around

Like a flock of lost sheep – never sure of our ground.

We went from the Dean to the Registrar’s desk,

And back to the Dean – a continuous quest.

Paying fees, signing cards, fixing programs – alas!

Twas a wonder we survived – this wonderful class

But once registration day’s fears were all past,

We began to revive, and recovered quite fast.

We showed the material of which we were made.

Homesickness was banished and gloom, too, did fade.

Organized into a well controlled crowd,

Chose president and officers of whom we’re most proud.

Enjoyed parties and picnics – the best in the Gym,

With the Sophs as hosts – we’re quite in the swim.

When football came ‘round we were true to our creed

Broke up the “Hot Line” – as all did concede.

We won in a fairly but fiercely waged fight.

There’s power in numbers – but more might I right.

We survived frantic “rushing” with no time to spare,

And when bids finally came, we had our full share.

In the classroom our lessons were always done well,

For in scholarly tasks the Freshmen excel.

We will always be true – when at work or at rest,

And prove to all others that our class is the best.
