Coach McCormick & Yell Leaders
Coach John W.
McCormick -- In John McCormick, Northwestern has a product of her own
handiwork. John is just one of us. And his loyal boosting of clean athletics and
Northwestern has won him the respect and admiration of all the directors of
athletics in this section of the country.
McCormick won fame as the coach of The World’s Champion Basket-ball Team
in 1924. His work at Northwestern has reflected
credit upon the institution as well as praise to himself and his team. Under his guidance, modern managerial methods
have been introduced to place athletics on a sound basis and to set high
standards for the future.
The Yell Leaders -- Few people realize
that the yell leaders for an institution play a very prominent part in the
school’s athletic engagements. Their
role is equal in importance to that of the athletes themselves. Keen insight, good judgment, alertness and
understanding must be embodied in the person holding this position. The morale of the team; the ability to win
over all obstacles is the result of consistent support from the sidelines.
Wiley White as head yell leader, and Doris Carmen as
assistant, formed a formidable team of “pep” promoters for Northwestern this
year. Their part in the victories for
the “Rangers” cannot be overlooked and the glory of the Red and Black will live
forever it the fine support and unsurpassed spirit shown at the majority of this years games can continue.
‘Tis
the duty of the “Hot Line,”
To make Rangers of ‘em all –
For when they land at
old Northwestern,
They ha’nt got no “pep” a-tall.
But a session with
the Tuff Nutts
Makes for fight and
grin and grit,
And “pep” at old
Northwestern
Would sure be lackin’ – but for it.
